How to export your Claude history — and bring it anywhere
Claude gives you a clean JSON export, then leaves you stuck: Anthropic won't let you import that archive back into another personal Claude account. Here is the exact export path (verified July 2026, web only), and how to turn that dead-end file into a history you can actually continue.
To export your Claude history, open claude.ai on a computer, click your initials (lower-left) → Settings → Privacy → Export data. Anthropic emails a .zip containing conversations.json; the link expires after 24 hours. You can't re-import that file into Claude — but you can import it into TulexAI and keep every chat.

How to export your Claude history

Open Claude on a computer (not the app)
Go to claude.ai in a browser or open Claude Desktop. Exports cannot be run from the iOS or Android app — Anthropic only offers the option on the web app and desktop. Free, Pro, and Max accounts can export.

Open Settings → Privacy
Click your initials in the lower-left corner, choose Settings, then open the Privacy section. (Older guides call this "Account" — the current label is Privacy.)

Click Export data
Press the Export data button. Anthropic generates your archive asynchronously — there is usually a short delay while it is prepared.

Download the emailed .zip within 24 hours
Anthropic emails a .zip download link to your account address, typically within a few hours. The link expires 24 hours after delivery, so download it promptly. Inside is conversations.json (a JSON array, one entry per conversation), plus users.json and projects.json.

Import the .zip into TulexAI

What's inside the Claude export?
Your download is a .zip. Here is what it contains and which file matters for importing.
- conversations.json — a JSON array with one entry per conversation, each holding its messages.
- users.json — your account details.
- projects.json — metadata for your Claude Projects (Project boundaries are not preserved as folders).
- The archive is JSON, not human-readable out of the box — a viewer or importer makes it usable.

- Claude's export does not record which model (Opus, Sonnet, Haiku) answered each message, so the model tag is left blank.
- Extended-thinking blocks and tool/artifact internals are skipped — you get the readable conversation.
- Uploaded images come across as a text placeholder; the binary files are not in the export.
